step 2 ‘dodge & burn’ I think is painted on a blank layer with black & white paintl. In soft mode this gives nice smooth highlights and shadows.

Dustin forgot to mention something in “Step 2: Dodge/Burn”. After he creates the new layer he fills it with 50% gray. This allows him to use the dodge/burn tools. Given that the dodge and burn tools won’t work on an empty layer I’m surprised only one person in all the comments noticed this! Even despite how many “thanks it worked great!” comments there were!

In step 3 – dodge and burn – what brushes are being used? Is it the dodge tool and burn tool? I have tried but see no change at all in the image (I used your suggested settings).

I hope you don’t mind my asking. Would love to use the style.
